We've spent years trying to remove friction from work, but some of it is exactly what shapes judgment. The real challenge isn't eliminating friction, it's knowing which friction is waste, and which is actually the training.
Absolutely love this article. I think it’s important to keep developing our thinking around human value and capability, and finding ways to identify it openly, for the sake of the younger generations and their identity, self-worth and contribution to society
I agree that AI has made finished work a weaker signal of capability. A polished output now tells us less about the person than it used to.
Where I would add a small caveat: the work still matters, but it has become incomplete evidence. The real signal is now in the choices around the work: what problem was chosen, what was ignored, what was edited out, what judgment shaped the final answer.
In other words, AI may reduce the value of execution as proof, but it increases the value of discernment as proof.
The work is no longer at full capacity. It is the trail left behind by capability.
The section on "friction" really stayed with me.
